Following up on yesterday's post concerning the coming importance of mobile devices for accessing web-based information, here's a note from Jill Windwer about the work we are doing to make our email alerts more mobile friendly. Those email alerts are important traffic builders for our websites, so rendering them in a mobile accessible version is a key step in our progression towards improving availability of our information for on-the-go users. We are making great progress in rolling out mobile versions of our email alerts. Here is a list of the emails that are currently available in a mobile version. Please note that when you open up the email on your mobile device, you need to click on the first link to open the mobile version. This works differently than our web sites where we are able to employ sniffer technology to automatically open a mobile web site. In addition, this mobile technology is only available for the emails that are built through the Fatwire system. We are unable to use it for emails built through TypePad such as the Am Law Daily.

Our mobile emails have a unique ad unit (300 x 50) that appears at the top and bottom. We also have a sponsor spotlight that follows the same specifications as our web sites. On the national level, we have begun working on different ways to monetize these ad units and we are also working on creating awareness of these new versions with our marketing group.
