I Left My Heart In...
Our colleagues in the San Francisco office will be moving to new quarters this weekend and we wish them much success in their new space. For those keeping track, the new office can be found at:
1035 Market Street, Suite 500
San Francisco, CA 94103
This will be the third office we've had in SF since I joined the company. When I started, The Recorder (and only The Recorder--I don't think law.com was with us at the time) was in an older building that featured a cooking school next door. The smells in the office were terrific. And I was told that, from time-to-time, our staff got to sample some of the chef's delights that had been created (though I never experienced that). I know we have some veterans from The Recorder on staff--what do you remember about those offices?
Best of luck on the move!

I remember getting in the elevator one morning at 625 Polk St. (the site of the aforementioned cooking school) to find, quite literally, a side of beef.
More importantly, I met a young lady there named Julie who was the property manager for the building.
She and I recently celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. So despite some of the trials of that space I have pretty fond memories of that old building.

I think your heart is still here, Bill. The new place won't smell like a cooking school, though we're hopeful it won't smell like the Carl Jr.'s that anchors our current space.

Yup, I'm one of those veterans -- but the irony is, eating at the Culinary Academy on our ground floor was rarely a treat. Just as you don't want to go to a hospital on July 1st when the new interns arrive, eating the students' efforts, while not life threatening, sometimes tasted that way. The generic diner across the street was almost always a better gamble. :)

Update -- John Cosmides used his iPhone to video a walk around the new office.

Looks terrific--lots of light, nice open feel. Good luck with the move this weekend!
